Integration of Immigrants

Grants & LoansGrantsCommunity Grants › Integration of Immigrants

Goal:

To foster a vibrant, cohesive community in which immigrants benefit from and contribute to civic life

Overview:

Historically, immigrants have contributed significantly to the vitality of our country but have often faced challenges in becoming accepted as community members. By encouraging newcomers to become fully integrated into community life, we strengthen the democratic process, enrich the economy, and enliven our experience of the world. Within the next decade, a significant number of California's potential voters will be children of immigrant parents and will be in a position to influence public policy on both a local and national level. As immigrants in Marin gain economic self-sufficiency, their increased earning and purchasing power translates into a more resilient and competitive economy. Perhaps most importantly, appreciating and respecting the diversity of backgrounds from which we all come is critical to the health of our community.

Under this goal, MCF will support projects that incorporate the following strategy and approaches:

Strategy: Support efforts to integrate immigrants into the community

Approach 1: Provide English language proficiency

Approach 2: Provide opportunities for economic advancement

Approach 3: Provide access to health, social, and legal residency services

Approach 4: Offer engagement in community-based efforts

Funded projects may include one or more approaches under the Integration of Immigrants goal. This goal serves as the platform for immigrants to fully participate in all aspects of community life and thus its benefits and responsibilities. Where there is synergy with other MCF grantmaking goals, opportunities exist to further the vision of immigrant integration.

A logic model for this strategy has been developed that further explains the approaches, activities, and desired impact of this goal area.

Process:
Application is by invitation only. A Request for Proposals (RFP) will be issued to community organizations that are being invited to apply for support under this goal.

If you are invited to submit an LOI for this goal, please register with the Grant Application Center. This system allows you to complete and submit all application materials online.

Once you have registered, please complete and submit a Letter of Intent (LOI), even if you have received funding from MCF in the past for this kind of work.

If your LOI is approved, you will be notified how to prepare and submit a full proposal, also using the Grant Application Center.

Open Registration Date: January 5, 2010

Deadline for LOI: January 15, 2010

LOI decision announced: January 22, 2010

Deadline for Full Proposal (if invited): February 22, 2010
