Community Development


The purpose of the Community Development program is to enhance the economic and social well being of low-income residents and their communities.

Goals:

  • Community Economic Development: To develop the systems and infrastructures that improve the physical, social, and economic quality of life of low-income residents.

    Emphasis: Developing housing opportunities, particularly for low-income families; community organizing; neighborhood planning; and leadership development.

  • Income Enhancement: To support opportunities for economic self-sufficiency and income enhancement.

    Emphasis: Training in entrepreneurship, small business development, mentoring, and coordination with County-wide job training programs.

  • Civic Involvement: To stimulate community education, problem-solving, and active participation of residents in issues and problems of local concern.

    Emphasis: Building coalitions, voter education and registration, advocacy, and forums for community dialogue and joint problem solving.
